There Are Three Primary Types Of Breast Implants:

Gummy Bear

As the newest type of implants in the industry, gummy bear implants are filled with very cohesive gel to hold their shape well. In fact, if you were to cut a gummy bear implant in half, no liquid would leak out. This is because the inner gel has the same consistency as a gummy bear. These implants have skyrocketed in popularity, as they provide consistently natural results for patients.

Silicone

Silicone implants are made from an outer silicone shell and are filled with silicone gel. Generally the more preferred option, silicone implants provide a natural look and feel.

Saline

Saline implants are filled with a sterile saline solution. These implants are inserted into the breasts empty, and the saline solution is injected once the implants are in the body.

Round Breast Implants Vs. Anatomical Or Teardrop Breast Implants

Round implants are the traditional shape that’s been in use since the early 60s. From the front, round implants appear as a circle. From the profile, round implants appear as a narrow ellipsis. With certain methods of breast augmentation, these implants can be used to give natural, beautiful results with breast augmentation.

Anatomical implants are shaped like a teardrop, closely approximating the appearance of an actual breast. For certain patients, an anatomical implant may be the more suitable option. It all depends on the patient’s natural anatomy and her various preferences regarding surgery.

Diameter Vs. Projection

Breast implants are measured in two ways: diameter and projection. The diameter is the width of the implant when viewed from the front. The projection is the width of the implant when viewed from the side. In choosing an implant, the ratio of diameter to projection is important, as it directly impacts the shape of your breasts following breast augmentation.

Breast Implant Sizes

Size is a primary consideration for breast augmentation patients. The size of a breast implant is measured in cubic centimeters (cc). One cup size is approximately 150-200 ccs. While the purpose of breast augmentation is to increase breast volume, it is important that patients don’t choose an implant that is too large, as this has been proven to cause complications after surgery.
