Depending on the procedure, Dr. Esmailian will have you start taking antibiotics the night before surgery. The morning of the surgery, we will provide antibiotics in your IV just before the procedure, per the research on the appropriate time to begin antibiotics before a procedure.

Yes, it is okay. Your menstrual cycle is not an issue in terms of the timing of your mommy makeover.

Silicone gel is applied twice a day, whereas silicone scar sheeting is placed and removed and changed daily. Depending on the procedure and your lifestyle, Dr. Esmailian can make a recommendation for what may work best for you. The scar treatment program can be started 5 days after the surgical tapes are removed, which is usually at two weeks.

If an abdominoplasty is performed, sutures around the belly button are removed within 1 week after the procedure. All other sutures are internal and are either permanent or dissolvable and do not need to be removed. The same goes for breast procedures as well.

Every patient responds differently to anesthesia. This depends on the length of the surgery and which drugs are used. Dr. Esmailian coordinates with the anesthesiologist on how much longer the surgery will take so that the anesthesiologist can manage the time it will take for the patient to wake up and keep this at a minimum.

There is no need to remove acrylic nails or nail polish for a mommy makeover.

Dry skin is common after most procedures because the nerves and glands that secrete natural moisturizers are disrupted. Use your usual moisturizing lotion to help keep your skin hydrated during the healing process.

Your drains will come out between 5 days to two weeks.

If you are careful to rest well, you may be able to resume sex after 3-4 weeks. To be on the more conservative and safer side, wait for 6 weeks.

For the first two weeks, refrain from using any anti-inflammatory like Aspirin/Advil/Motrin/Aleve after surgery, as these medications can thin the blood and increase the risk of bleeding. Tylenol or acetaminophen products are safe to use immediately after surgery.

After six weeks, you can go in a swimming pool or Jacuzzi, as long as the Jacuzzi is not very hot. (A hot Jacuzzi can increase the swelling in the areas trying to heal.)
